Marching On by Kate Sterner | Apr 02, 2015 All I was seeing in February was pink, pink and more pink and now my eyes won't see anything but green! Green took over the cupcakery this past month, and we went all out for St. Patrick's Day. Our decorators had fun getting into the Irish spirit, and their talents and creativity never cease to amaze! Wedding Season is Upon Us! Scratch Cupcakery would love to be part of your big day! Send Kate an email at email@example.com to get more information about how to make your wedding extra sweet! Check out some of these beautiful wedding cupcakes that have left our kitchen! Employees of the Month Coralville Our employee of the month is Maggie! Maggie has been a front staff with us since July 2014. Maggie loves Scratch, well, because of the cupcakes of course! Her favorite is Doughlicious! Maggie is originally from the Chicago area, but we are sure glad she is in Coralville with us now! She loves to sing and dance and she participates in many performances with Combined Efforts Theater. She also loves Carrie Underwood and country music! Maggie has been such a blessing to work with and she brings smiles to everyone she comes in contact with! Our Scratch family would not be complete without Maggie! We are so honored to have her here at Scratch! Cedar Valley It's more than just a job; it is a family. Courtney Dreyer, our March employee of the month, is one of our hardest working front staff employees and has grown and evolved alongside Scratch. She has been invested in her job since the doors first opened in June 2010 at "Little Scratch" and her hard work derives from her love of working for Natalie Brown, the owner. Courtney also enjoys putting smiles on customers' faces and being part of the Scratch family. In August, Courtney will start Physical Therapy at Des Moines University and has graduated from UNI with a degree in Exercise Science. There are few people more passionate or dedicated to a job, and there aren't words enough to describe just how much Courtney will be missed when she moves on but she will always be a key member of the Scratch family! We love you, Court! West Des Moines Caitie has been a go-getter since day one. She is eager to learn and is able to produce great quality cupcakes consistently. She has a great personality that brightens the atmosphere in the kitchen and you can always hear her laughing at somebody’s joke. Plus, have you seen her calf muscles?? Thanks for being so great, Caitie! Meet the Management Last month we started a new spotlight section where I introduced our General Manager, Dee! This month's special guest is Sam, check it out! Although February is the shortest month, we definitely made sure to jam pack it full of fun, tons of love, and of course a little chaos. Valentine's Day 2k15 The first half of the month was spent in preparation of one of our very favorite holidays, VALENTINE'S DAY! We filled the cupcake trees with some seriously cute Valentine's cupcakes, and the decorators got really creative throughout the week. I was still seeing pink and red throughout the rest of the month! We gave our delivery team a run for their money, and they had such a great time bringing smiles to all of your sweetie pies! Employees of the Month Cedar Valley The February Cedar Valley Employee of the Month is one of the most talented decorators around, Leah Embrey. Leah is the head decorator here in the Cedar Falls location. Her favorite part of her job is putting smiles on customers' faces with their special and customized cupcake orders. She can do just about anything when it comes to a special order; from lions and tigers to gender reveals and prom proposals, she does it all. Leah graduated with her undergraduate degree in Physical Education and Exercise Science from UNI in 2013, and will have her master's degree in kinesiology also from UNI in May. One of the best things about her job is that Leah gets to work with her friends here at the Cupcakery. She has been a part of our cupcake family for a while now and we certainly appreciate her talent and hard work! Coralville The Coralville February Employee of the Month is Heather! Heather is a decorator here at Scratch and started with us in May of 2014. She is originally from Hampshire, IL but moved to Iowa in 2011 to attend Cornell College where she majored in History and had a minor in Art History. She has recently been an intern and volunteer at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art History. Heather says her favorite part about working at Scratch is working with people that have positive attitudes! Some of Heather's favorite things to do outside of work are hang out with her friends, cook, and travel! We have enjoyed getting to know Heather more and we love having her as a member of our family. She has brought great work ethic and a great sense of humor to Scratch and we are so grateful she is here! West Des Moines Gary is one of the most positive and encouraging guys we have ever encountered. He loves our Scratch family and takes pride in how the store looks, functions, and feels. You can always find him deep cleaning some part of the store, or climbing on ladders to adjust anything we need. Gary is our go-to for fixing anything we need and making life around the store as simple and easy as possible. Gary, you’re great! Curbside Hybernation Our Curbside truck has been recovering since the end of October from an amazing 2014 season. Last season, we attended 152 events, traveling over 31,000 miles in a 5 month span. Talk about a busy summer! We already have some confirmed dates scheduled for our 2015 Curbside Season that kicks off in April to the following towns: We are so excited about this upcoming curbside season, and if you'd like Curbside to make a trip to your town, send Tabitha an email at firstname.lastname@example.org! Meet the Management I thought it would be fun if we could spotlight one member of our management team each month so everyone can get to know them! So, this month we are starting at the top, with our General Manager, Dee. Tell us a little about yourself and what you do here at Scratch/how long you've been doing it? I have been at Scratch since January 2011. I believe I have done every position available at the cupcakery. I started as a front staff, went to a baker then a decorator, store manager and now my title is General Manager. My job is different every day and that is why I love it! My main focus is working with the managers of each location on a daily basis to make sure the operation and product produced is the same at each location. What is your favorite part about your job? The people I work with for sure. My job is unique because I get to travel around to all the Scratch locations. So I get to know all the employees and love getting to learn about what is happening in the lives of the Scratch family members. Favorite cupcake? Tough.... but I would say either Black Bottom or Saucy Chocolate Toffee If you were stranded on an island and could on pick three things to bring, what would they be? 1. My dog to keep me company 2. A knife... because I'm sure that would come in handy at least once 3. A boat to get off the island (You didn't put any limits on my answers :)) If you could share a cupcake with one person who would it be? Ellen DeGeneres. She makes me laugh... and she would be a good person to have try a Scratch Cupcake. I also think that if she liked the cupcakes she would invite me to be on her show... and who doesn't dream of that (hopefully for the 12 days of giveaways). Dogs or cats? Dogs. 100%. No questions. If someone gave you a yacht, what would you name it? "Thankful" because hey.... it was free! What would your "Miss America" pageant talent be? Hahaha oh gosh!!! I can't sing, dance or play any cool instruments.... so lets say juggling. I'd practice juggling something that's on fire... that will get people's attention! You can snap your fingers and magically appear somewhere else. Where do you go? Greece. I was there for only a few days when I studied abroad in college. It was beautiful and I would love to spend some more time exploring. Is the dress white and gold or blue and black? White and gold!!!! There was nothing blue and black about it! Go comment!
